Hi, my name is Elio!

I'm a curious Engineer Software who tries to explaincomputer science in a simpler way simple, starting from real questions and things we use every day.

I write about tech and personal growth, to better understand how they work and help others do the same.

What I have understood in the last 10 years

Over the past ten years, I’ve spent more time learning than looking for shortcuts.
And the more I learned, the clearer it became that comparing yourself to others says very little about the value of a journey.

From the outside, it seems like everyone has a clear path.
From the inside, almost everyone is just learning how to find their way.

I studied engineering because I wanted to understand how things worknot because I was chasing a title or a perfect career.

By studying Linux, networks, servers, cybersecurity, software development and cloud computing, I realized that real progress is not about knowing more, but about thinking better.

One thing however I understood early building skills without building yourself takes you far, but it doesn’t take you well.

Too many people put their entire identity into their work, hoping that that sooner or later it will be enough.
I have always looked for the opposite, to use study and work as a tool to growing, explore, become more free, mentally even before professionally.

Over the years I have done many projects, many have never left a hard disk (or an SSD).
And that's okay.
Because it’s there that I learned to make mistakes without having to prove anything to anyone.

Over time I discovered something I didn’t expect:
explaining what I was learning helped me to understand it better.
And it also helped others not to feel stupid in front of things that are only apparently complex.

But I also understood another thing, perhaps the most underestimated: how fundamental it is to know how to communicate.

The Communication is the force that moves the world.
A communication mistake can destroy a person’s credibility, just as it can trigger huge conflicts.

But above all, I found out that when you know how to communicate better, you learn better.
Shaping your thoughts, explaining them, putting them in order has a value that is priceless.

Today I work as a Software Engineer, but this space wasn’t created to talk about successes.
It was created to better understand the world ofcomputer science and build an extra perspective together extra set and take a moment to reflect.

I write for those who feel that they are building something, even if they don’t yet have a clear map.
For those who love computer science but do not want to become a machine.
For those who want to grow up without stopping living.

I don't have all the answers.
But I have learned to ask me many questions.

And this is where it all begins.

Why are computer viruses called viruses?

When I was a kid, I often played online, clicked on a little game and... boom. Sudden popups, fake "X" buttons that did not close anything and automatic downloads that you had never requested. The computer began to become slow, improvised, sometimes unusable. Well, I dumped viruses unintentionally. But why are they called viruses?

When we browse an HTTPS website, we are trusting a digital certificate: it serves to authenticate the site’s identity and protect communication.

The problem is that, at real-world scale (billions of connections per day), understanding how much these certificates are really safe and compliant with standards is far from trivial.

This project was born, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino, to address this need by providing a tool and an architecture for large-scale automated collection and analysis of X.509v3 certificates.

The tool allows extracting insights on security, prevalence, and standards compliance, by analyzing certificate structure, trust chains, extensions, transparency mechanisms, adherence to guidelines defined by RFC and the CA/Browser Forum, and much more .
